Program Overview

The Healing Hearts Bereavement Fund, provided by Covenant Lives Healing Heart Agency Inc is designed to support families who have experienced pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant loss.  This fund offers financial assistance for funeral/memorial services, emergency bill payments, and access to grief support services.  Additionally, we provide scholarships to community-based doulas and midwives who need funding for training, certification and supplies to continue their critical work in birth and bereavement care and end of life care.

Eligibility Criteria

For families Applying for Bereavement Assistance

  • Must have experienced pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant loss within 12 months.
  • Must demonstrate financial need for burial/memorial expenses or urgent living costs.
  • Must provide documentation verifying loss (e.g. medical records, obituary, death certificates.)

For Birth Workers, Applying for Scholarships:

  • Must be an aspiring or practicing community-based doula or midwife.
  • Must demonstrate financial need for certification, education, or essential materials.
  • Must have a commitment to serving underserved Black and Brown communities.
  • Must submit an application including a personal statement and financial need verification.

Application Process

1. Complete the online application via apply button.


2.Attach all required supporting documents( financial proof letters of recommendation, proof of loss or education enrolment confirmation).


3. Applications are reviewed within 2-4 weeks, and decisions will be communicated via email.


4. Approved applicants will receive funding disbursements directly to service providers (e.g. funeral home, doula training institution) or as direct support when necessary.

  • For families. Documentation of pregnancy loss or infant death.
  • For birth workers. Proof of enrollment in a doula or midwifery program.
  • Two letters of recommendation ( for birth worker applicants only).

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much financial assistance is provided?

Funding amounts vary based on need and available resources, with maximum of $2,000 per family and $1,500 per birth worker per application cycle.


2. How often can I apply?

Families and birth workers can apply once per calendar year unless social circumstances require additional support.


3. Who receives the applications?

A dedicated panel of Covenant Lives Healing Heart Agency Inc staff and community advisors will review applications confidentially.


4. If approved, how is the funding distributed?

Funds are typically paid directly to vendors (e.g. funeral homes, certification programs) or provided as direct financial assistance in urgent cases.

5. Can I apply if I am outside the service area?

We prioritize applicants within South Eastern Pennsylvania but if funds are available, we may extend support to other regions.
